Aug.8th event calender for the Kite Challenge.     
All events will be held on the Granada ramp at Ocean Blvd. in Belmont Shore                             
Join us for a day of fun, and invite your friends and family.  
Circle this date because there are going to be lots of activities: 
1) Kite Challenge. At 2 P.M  (or when the wind comes up) we will hold our 
jumping and big air tricks exhibition. This event is all about having fun. 
Depending on the number of entrants we will have a women’s class, novice 
class (less than 2 years), old guys class(over 40), old school (big air, board offs, 
etc.) and an open class (PROS). Entry is open to all. To compete register by 
emailing Jim (e-address below). Bring your chairs and sunblock too.                           
There’s a possible stand-up paddle board race &amp; windsurfing demo in the works 
2) Raffle prizes.  At approximately 4:30 we will hold our raffle. All proceeds go 
to the SCKA. The top prize is four days accomodation in La Ventana, that 
includes kite lessons; additional prizes include a complete lesson package for 
two, a DaKine harness, DVD’s, t-shirts, hats, magazines, wine, gift certificates, 
stand-up paddle board lessons and a motorcycle ride with Klaus. Tickets will be 
available all day for 1$ each, 100 for $100, or anything in between. 
3) Kiters BBQ.  At 5 P.M. Alfredo’s restaurant will open their doors to kiters that 
want to hang out after the event. Alfredo’s will be serving either steak or 
chicken, corn, salad, chips and salsa. They will have a huge video screen 
showing fantastic kite boarding videos. The party will last until 9 P.M.                                               
The BBQ is $25 each. Your dinner ticket also includes 5 raffle tickets. 
 A limited number of tickets are available so reserve yours today.

Date:           May 30 (Saturday)

Requirement:    This is not for teaching beginners how to kite.  You must have taken at least a water lesson and know how to rig your own equipment, can comfortably fly your kite.  For the on water skills clinics, you must be able to ride in both directions and have excellent kite control.  
12:00-1:00      Sign up, pick up handouts for beach rules and guidelines.  Clinic participants please rig up your kites and have your gear ready. 
We will have kiting safety equipment on display courtesy of Kitesurfari.
1:00-4:00       We will group the kiters based on skill and experience and each group will have an instructor.  The groups will rotate through all of the stations to learn about the various topics.  We will limit the number of people in each group, so it is first come first serve.  Please be on time!
Clinic A, Wind/water/kite selection considerations and kiting rules and guidelines: 
    Learn about the typical weather conditions in So Cal and what to watch out for.  Also learn about wind strength, kite size, wind directions, and when you should not go out.  Will go over the Belmont kiting rules and how to kite in crowded places.
Clinic B, Gear inspection and safety system deployment:
  Learn how to inspect and maintain your equipment to prevent problems.  Learn what to do in case of equipment failure.  Learn how the safety system works on your kite &amp; bar and how to activate them.  Practice letting go of the bar and activating your safety.  Also test your quick releases under load to make sure they work.  Layout your bar/lines and have your harness ready for this clinic.  
Clinic C, Land simulation of water self rescue:
  Learn how to depower your downed kite, wrap up your lines and work your way to your kite and use it to pull you back to shore.  
Clinic D, Skills workshop (some will depend on the wind condition):
  This workshop will be tailored to the skill level of the group and each group can decide on which skills they would like to work on.  Options are kite flying, self launch, self landing, body dragging upwind, proper stance, board edging, going up wind, transition, load &amp; pop and jumping.  Have your equipment ready to go.</summary>

2:00-5:00       Safety clinics 45 minutes each offered 4 times starting (2:00, 2:45, 3:30 &amp; 4:15).  You can rotate through all 4 clinics.

We will get rental cars and carpool from the airport to La Ventana (about 45 minutes) and split the cost.
