Kiteboarders where are you?!

Hi guys,

I recently got stock in Orange County due to a business project. I had to skip my holidays in Cadiz (Spain) where I also booked a one-week kite surfer beginners course (~12h course, 10h free rental, ~300€)

As beeing over here down in Aliso Viejo and noticing the nice wind I was trying to look out for some kites on Laguna Beach and around Dana Point, but so far I found nothing. Last weekend I checked those nice surf shops in Dana Point, but they were like "kite surfing - don't know that much about."

I followed the links mentioned here, but price offering dates back to 2007 and also the pricing is IMHO a little too much. Also the notice, 50% off, if you buy a kite won't really help me, as I most likely won't carry a kite back to europe.

So I was wondering If you could give me any good links/tipps/hints where I can find group lessons to get into that wonderful sport and can spend my weekends on. Next to basic sailing and wind surfing, I also have some paraglyding experience, so air/wind is not an element I am a complete beginner ;)

Looking forward to any comments!

Best regards
Michael

Michael,

There aren't too many spots down in South Orange County. I know that there are a few people that kite at Salt Creek, and also just south of Doheny. But winds are not usually very good down that way. You will find many more kiteboarders up towards Belmont (in Long Beach), or Seal Beach. If you are interested in lessons, you can contact:

KiteSurfari, Inc.
452 Pacific Coast Hwy
Seal Beach,CA 90740
toll free 866.949.KITE

and ask for Carter. I am sure there are other kite schools around, but I only mentioned this one because I have heard many good things from this place. Maybe other people on this forum can give you their recommendations.

Good luck!
